Why Not Taking Short Breaks in the UK Countryside?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

When planning a short or extended break, many UK residents forget about all of the wonderful travel options available within the UK itself. This sad fact is no surprise considering the amount of advertising and media attention far flung destinations receive, but with so many national treasures right on their doorstep, many people are travelling far afield for no reason.

I’ve heard of massive discounts off hotel prices of up to 50% for hotels in the heart of the UK You will be able to afford a holiday this year or enjoy a luxury four star hotel!

Remember to shop around, use the internet to compare deals and visit your travel agent to see what there offers are. If you have found great deals on the internet it can be worth bargaining with the high street travel agent to see if they are willing to match or beat your deal.

History enthusiasts and those particularly fond of Britain’s heritage will find the perfect holiday in places like York which features national landmarks such as the famous York Minster, the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe and museums such as Jorvik Viking Centre and the York Castle Museum.

On the other hand, people who prefer the cut and thrust of city life will also find that there are many short breaks in the UK that will fulfill their holiday aspirations.

Studying Abroad

This concept is becoming more popular as time passes on. As the world becomes more globalized and means of traveling or getting around the world gets easier, the younger people get to travel. This is something that today’s schools are well aware of.

Kids as young as middle school are beginning to travel within the school institution itself, family and even friends.

I really do believe that this is a good thing. The more we travel outside of America and see the way other people live, communicate, act and react and simply live differently than we do, makes us smarter and more aware of what is going on in the world.

The world may seem like a far away place, something that really does not really reach us. But the more time advances and the more politics start to make an impact in our life, the more we pay attention to the world issues.

I encourage all students who have the possibility to go abroad and study for a quarter even a year, immerse yourself in those different cultures and learn from it. It will make you grow as a human being, and open you up to a different way to look at the world.
