Poker Dates Are a Bad Idea
Thursday, July 24th, 2008
Thinking about taking your significant other on a date that involves a spirited poker game? Think again, doubly so if it’s your first date!
Poker dates are a huge step below dinner and a movie on the terrible date idea scale. At least with movies you’re seeing something good, hopefully, whereas with poker there’s nothing but disaster waiting for you in the future. Even the French, who play poker en ligne more than any other European nation, know better than to have a poker date.
Who cares if you’re a good poker player, or a pro, this is a terrible date idea because it involves several shady aspects that could turn off your date faster than a light switch. First, it’s gambling, even if you’re playing with free play money. Some people just don’t warm up to gambling, no matter who’s teaching them how to do it. And if you jump right into a money game with a date, well, there’s some doubt as to whether or not you’d even make it to the ante before they split.
And, what if the date actually likes poker, and is really good at it to boot? Can you honestly say you’d want to go on a second date with someone who just took you to the cleaners for $1,000?
No, stick to normal dates with proven track records and leave poker at home with the boys (or girls). You’ll be glad you did.
