The SOM Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has announced the first set of DEI Mini-Grant winners during the 2022 pilot year of the awards program.
The UNC School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has announced the first round of DEI Mini-Grant winners in the awards program’s 2022 pilot year. Awards range from $1,500 to $2,000 and are available to support DEI applications and projects, including research, programs, conferences, trainings and more.
The latest mini-grant recipients are:
Elisa LundKimberly Nichols, Annika Webb, Mia Kang, Skye Margolies, Joshua Pyant and Kelsey DeSilva (anaesthesiology)
Support the new workshop for the Anesthesia Residency Program Health Care Disparities Education Program, BREATHE (Bias Realization: Education in Anesthesia and Treating Humans Equally).
Kim Nichols and Skye Margolies (anesthesiology)
Financial assistance for a medical student to attend the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiology.
Tara Moon (Health Sciences)
Support presentation and campus tour for Dr. Arnethea Sutton.
Tamara Saint Surin and Portia Nleya (internal medicine)
Organize mentoring events under the Bridging the gap program, where third- and fourth-year medical students are paired with URM mentees, to meet challenges, provide opportunities for networking, professional development, and increase community engagement.
Dominique Higgins, Eldad Hadar and Vibhor Krishna (neurosurgery)
Established the UNC Chapter of the National Neurosurgery Initiative for students to gain basic neuroscience science experience and early exposure to neurosurgery called the “Black Lives Matter Neurosurgery Neuroscience Summer Opportunity.” Applicants who believe they can contribute to the diversity of the profession are encouraged to apply.
