WASHINGTON, DC: AHF shames Gilead with a protest against World AIDS Day, December 1

WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nov 30, 2022–

On World AIDS Day, Thursday, December 1, advocates and mobilizers affiliated with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) will hold a protest in Washington, DC, targeting drugmaker Gilead Sciences over pricing and of the Bay Area Company’s medication policies. The Washington protest is part of a series of three protests on the same day across the United States targeting Gilead’s greed. The national demonstrations will take place on the morning of Thursday, December 1, at washington d.c. (9:00 a.m. EST), Miami, Florida (11:30 a.m. EST), and in San Diego/Oceanside, CA (10:30 a.m. PST).

WHO:		50 to 100 defenders at each location with signs reading “Stop Being Greedy” and, playing on the company logo with some red letters scribbled on Gilead’s logo, signs reading “Greed” and “Greediad”.

Lawyers are protesting Gilead for its deep and deaf greed on pricing and policies, particularly the illegal restrictions the company imposed earlier this year on access to 340B drug pricing for its branded treatments for hepatitis C for some pharmacies. Gilead is now one of 15 big pharma companies that have illegally placed such restrictions on its drugs

The AHF World AIDS Day Gilead protests follow a series of twice-daily, week-long protests in late October targeting Gilead, maker of most of the key and most effective HIV and AIDS drugs. Hepatitis C, at its headquarters in Foster City, California. AHF also protested Gilead’s greed and actions four times in the spring and summer at the drugmaker’s Bay Area headquarters.

The 340B drug pricing program is administered by the United States Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA). He has helped provide low-cost medicines and better health outcomes to millions of Americans through the nonprofit clinics and hospitals that serve them. Safety net providers like Ryan White’s providers, who serve HIV patients, have the right under Law 340B to purchase drugs at a reduced price. In March, Gilead put profits before patients by unilaterally imposing illegal conditions on when and how it will give discounts on certain hepatitis C drugs.
